“Is it time to leave ships?”
It might start as a fleeting thought — easy to brush off and get back to the routine.
Maybe it came after a hard week or couple of cruises, a quiet moment at sea, or a conversation with someone who already made the jump to land life.  But the thing is, that thought doesn’t fully go away.
You might still enjoy ship life. You still have laughs with your team, hit your targets, feel the pride of your role and identity of ship crew. But somewhere in the background, there’s a tug — a curiosity, a wondering: Is there something more? Is it time for something new?
This is the beginning of a quiet shift. You may not realize it yet, but thinking about leaving ships — even occasionally — usually means something deep inside you is starting to change. It doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful or that you hate ship life. It just means that something isn’t fully aligned anymore.
And it’s okay to explore that. In fact, it’s healthy.
It’s Not Just a Bad Day — It’s a Sign
Ship life is full of highs and lows. That’s the nature of this world — intense, fast-paced, rewarding, exhausting. It’s normal to have off days. But when the “off days” start showing up more often… when they start making you wonder if you can really keep doing this… that’s when it’s time to pay attention.
Ask yourself:
• What do the hard days really feel like?
• What thoughts go through your head after a tough shift, or a long contract?
• Is it just a bad week, or is something deeper underneath?
Maybe your role feels repetitive or no longer challenges you.
Maybe finances don’t stretch like they used to.
Maybe you're missing important moments with your family or friends.
Maybe you feel like you've grown — but your position hasn't.
Maybe you're just... tired.
This isn’t about jumping to conclusions.
This is simply about identifying what exactly feels off — is it the job, the lifestyle, the cruise line, the lack of freedom, the feeling of being disconnected from life back home?
Once you start naming what’s no longer fulfilling, you start taking back your power.
From there, you can decide — Do I need a change onboard? A change of ship? Or is it time to seriously explore land life?
You’re Not Alone — And You Don’t Have to Decide Everything Today
If you’re in this space — not totally sure if you’re ready to leave, but not totally at peace with staying — then you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.  This in-between place can feel confusing. You might go from feeling totally fine to wanting to quit overnight. One contract feels okay, the next one feels unbearable. You might even feel guilty for wanting something else, especially when others around you seem content.
But here’s the truth:
You’re allowed to grow.
You’re allowed to question what’s next.
You’re allowed to build a future beyond the ship, even if it’s just an idea for now.
You don’t need to have all the answers yet. But you do need a space where you can think clearly, feel supported, and begin exploring your next step — without pressure, without judgment.
